gravel
AwendaGravel route on , Simcoe County, Ontario "From what I gather, you can ride all the trails other than a few here and there and they're all two track with a few rock and root sections. some climbs and stuff, I think they cleared out most of the technical stuff for ease of use for campers so my gravel bike worked well on it. I think the park charges for parking so I just parked at the SCMBC lot at Dorian and took the road into an entry point but this trail seems to be up for sale and the land might be private soon. There's another point of entry that I think is the proper one to use, you park at a ball diamond at Tonache Park and go straight in on a service road which is a two track, then you have options to take a MTB trail or go onto the open track. I found myself riding in a campsite and felt a bit like an intruder once. The trail was leaf covered and flattened from riding and walking so it was like being on a carpet of sorts, other sections had packed gravel with short grass, some trillium plants that overtook a section and then there were some rocks to avoid. In all it's great for a casual ride, I wouldn't use it as a destination but if it's close to a route you're doing you could take a detour and check it out." 1 |

gravel
Tiny Gravel ExploreGravel route on Balm Beach Rd E, Simcoe County, Ontario "Just some exploration to see what I can find. There are some short paved sections but this is mostly gravel and dirt ATV/moto trails. I really love the ATV/moto trails but watch out for rocks and roots here and there and try to pick a time when there isn't too many machines out there ripping around, later in the evening or nice and early is best." |

Tiny Gravel RideGravel route on Balm Beach Rd E, Simcoe County, Ontario "Starts on the Tiny Rail Trail, you can start at any one of the parking lots down the trail if you want to extend the ride. There are two short sections of road, Baseline Rd which has a narrow but pretty solid gravel shoulder if you want to play in the gravel but this road is generally pretty quiet. County Rd 29 is a busier road but has wide gravel shoulders to stay well off the road, they're pretty soft but it's not a very long ride. The ATV/moto trails are pretty fun and I found myself going a bit too fast, watch out for roots and rocks here and there, there's one short uphill that has deep sand that might require a CX run for about 10-15 feet, ride the trails along the side of the road to avoid pavement, they're fun and challenging, The marsh area can be wet well after a rainfall but it's only in a small section of trail and watch out for apples on the trail in the late summer. There are lots of ATV/moto trails to explore and quite a few gravel roads to turn off on if you want." |
