This is a great loop starting at Engel Mine. You could start in Taylorsville, but it would add about 20 miles of pavement to what is already a pretty long ride. After the first big climb up Diamond Mtn, the rest of the ride is pretty mellow. The section between Susanville and Westwood is on the Bizz Johnson Trail, a rails-to-trails trail, so it's very gradual.

Calling the Diamond Mountain climb out of Susanville "invigorating" is quite an understatement. I prefer to use the term "brutal". 😰

Rode this clockwise from Susanville. Great ride all around. The first climb out of Susanville is invigorating. We ended up refilling our water bottles from Lights Creek before climbing Moonlight Valley. Bizz Johnson is really an impressive trail and we were glad we ended with the long downhill into Susanville.
