While it is generally climbing, I could cover most of the distance in 4-6 gear. There were about ten 1-2 gear climbs, where I also then had to be a bit more careful on the way down. Most of the surface was fairly hard clay with embedded rocks and roots. There were some softer sections with redwood needles and oak leaves. Riding through the trees was lovely. There is an overlook about half way up that would be a good spot to turn around at if you aren't inclined to go the full distance.

Awesome route for a gravel bike! It's a long climb so be ready.
