Recommend going clockwise it is slightly easier but also the views are better. Ride drops down into Gaston through farmland and only touches the highway for a little over a block. Road up from Gaston is paved and lightly used but ends in some spectacular gravel. Final ascent is magical with the cow fields sweeping to your left.
