41 mi   pavement

Llano to Castell to Llano

Pavement route on W Dallas St, Llano, Llano County, Texas

"Low traffic made the ride out a pleasure, and respectful drivers coming and going made the paved sections a real pleasure. Not a lot of dirt but that part was very nice, too. So many roads coming off 152 add options to the route. Coming back we'll keep finding new routes just off this one."

22 mi   gravel

Mt. Crested Butte to Schofield Pass and Back

Gravel route on Treasury Hill Rd, Crested Butte, Gunnison County, Colorado

"This is one of the most beautiful rides in this area--in most areas--which is strange how the map on this site shows the road ending right where the dirt and gravel begins. The gradual descent toward Gothic is stupendous in the Fall--lots of changing aspen leaves right now--and the climb up toward the pass on the other side of the valley is really tough when your lungs are from 1,000 feet and you're right then over 10,000 (grades are from 6+% sustained to 21% sections). Lots of world famous mountain bike trails come off or to this road, and if you have a grander adventure gene than mine, you might get to the pass and turn up onto the 401 Trail, keep climbing high onto the side of the mountain, before traversing back to the Judd Falls Trail lot."
