SE PA Farmland

Other route from N Lewis Rd to Maplewood Dr, Douglassville, Berks County, Pennsylvania

"75% asphalt 25% gravel with some interesting sights. I've improved this over 4 motorcycle rides, but it would work on a mountain bike too. There are multiple loops and spurs which could be eliminated to shorten it. The route passes numerous gamelands which generally have singletrack open to mountain bikes outside hunting season. You'll see buffalo, a working quarry, Amish farms, Blue Mountain, streams, and lots of trees. Be respectful of the locals. The first gravel segment is the toughest."

Gravel route from SD-240 to SD-240, Interior, Jackson County, South Dakota

"Saw a loose young bull on the road and an angry badger on the side. Skips the Park entrance, but you're still supposed to pay."

Sheep Mountain Overlooks

Gravel route from Sheep Mountain Rd to Unnamed Road, Scenic, Oglala Lakota County, South Dakota

"World class overlanding. Beyond the first overlook is deeply rutted and steep in places. Easy on a MTB, needs some skill and knobbies on a motorcycle."

Spring Creek Road

Gravel route from Creston Rd to SD-40, Hermosa, Custer County, South Dakota

"Rode on my F800GS with luggage. Well maintained roads with beautiful scenery. Probably a boring walk, but OK on mountain bikes. Road crosses pasture for cattle and horses. Nice approach to Black Hills."

"Maintained gravel with a few ruts and washboard sections. Relatively flat. Nice views. Saw bear scat in the road."

Blacktail Plateau Drive

Gravel route on Blacktail Plateau Dr, Yellowstone National Park, Park County, Wyoming

"One-way to the east. Closed most of year due to ice/snow or bear breeding. I did it on a motorcycle, but most cars would be OK, and any 4WD. Mountain bike would be easy, unless you encounter a grizzly bear. Carry bear spray and know how or use it."

Bryn Coed Farm

Gravel route on St Matthews Rd, Chester Springs, Chester County, Pennsylvania

"Former livestock farm and future township park. Some agricultural equipment and hay is stored here. Sign restricts access but never had a problem. Hike, MTB, 4x4, or dual-sport. Road gets muddy."

Canal Street

Gravel route from Freemont St to Heckle St, Phoenixville, Chester County, Pennsylvania

"Gate at entrance is usually open, and no signage restricts access. Hike, MTB, 4x4, or dual-sport. Slope is a slight challenge and there are muddy spots. There's a railroad tunnel, building ruins, a canal, and the river to explore."
