I've ridden this twice and I highly suggest doing this counterclockwise because Davidson Trail (Coastal Trail) is very hard to find through Fern Canyon coming from the south. I turned back my first time out before doing it CCW. It's a beautiful ride with a nice mix of gravel, singletrack, and road. I was there over Thanksgiving and it was quiet—only a few hikers and little car traffic. A few downed trees along the southern portion of Davidson Trail (not road) but easy to navigate under or around. LOTS of poison ivy along the northern portion of Davidson Trail, between Ossagon and Fern Canyon, so bring Technu if you're allergic. Saw fresh bear scat on a spur trail I explored so bear spray wouldn't be a terrible idea.
Route from visitor Center to Davidson Road past Gold Bluffs and passed fern is good. After that it’s either under water or a mud bog. We could not get past the fern area
April 5th. The section from park office to Davidson road to Gold Bluffs north to Fern is OKAY but north of fern is a creek and either under water or a mud pit
