The starting point is along Mauna Kea Summit road. It's mostly downhill, but it doesn't feel like it until the last 15 miles, as the road does not follow a contour and, in fact, traverses over many thick aa lava flows. So, it's somewhat more challenging than the numbers would suggest. While it is a gravel road many sections are too steep and rocky for a gravel bike and full suspension is recommended.

This is a public road through private property and ranch lands. You will come across a few closed gates. They are not locked and you should close them after passing through. Respect the Aina and remain on the road do not go off roading and damaging others private property. It is a beautiful road circling Mauna Kea at about the 7000 foot elevation.
