Gravel Route
On W Port Ave, Dungannon, Scott County, Virginia
Leaving the Dungannon Clinch River launch area, the ride starts with a 2.8 section of pavement. River Road transitions to gravel for the next 6.38 miles. The west of of River Road has a nasty climb near the end of the gravel segment. The paved descent has several tight switchbacks. This paved section also has a short section on the busiest road of the route. This area also has alternative parking if you would prefer to start the route on the west side. After 5.63 miles of pavement in Fort Blackmore the route makes a right onto Hunters Valley East. The next 5.97 miles are rolling gravel. Some parts are hard packed, some loose gravel, with several potholes and water drains to watch out for. The road becomes paved for 2.14 miles then back to gravel for .68 before reaching the intersection with Route 72. This can be another busy road but your only 1.27 miles from the finish.
