This is my local trail and I have cycled from Maynooth to ~Ormsby on gravel. The trail here is say 10% sand and badly chewed up by ATVs. Ride low pressure. Technique is important. The trail is much nicer the day after a rain.

Large sections of the HHT are terrible for cycling - loose sand and well chewed up gravel from ATVs. Needs a much better, firmer surface like other multi-use rail trails in the province (Victoria trail, Millennium Trail are good examples). Trail maintenance is non-existent. Obviously caters to motorized over cycling.
