I live near here.... 4WD and good ground clearance recommended. Do not attempt a through trip in a low clearance 2WD sedan. Have a half tank of gas minimum and pack your own food and water. It can be an easy run or if you break down it can be hellish. Limited cell service

What a great ride. Steep in parts with braking bumps; not a big deal if you keep your momentum. Great views from the ridge. Lots of traffic up here this weekend, which made riding your own ride more difficult.

Maybe I should have tried this segment downhill. I rode the reverse of your route and it's more than slightly strenuous.

Excellent place to get away from the crowds. My son and I went through and camped one night at the best site there, and then continued on to Blowing Rock and Boone. Next time we'll take the mountain bikes and have someone drive the Jeep with our gear in it.

Nice scenic easy ride. Campsites along road as well.
