This road should really be avoided at all costs. Numerous cars, trucks, and 4x4s have destroyed the Atlanta side of the road, in addition to flood damage. A full suspension mountain bike is advised for portions of the Atlanta side. The Rocky Bar side is not as chunky, but is very steep and has one to two inch deep "moon dust" sand making for an incredibly challenging ascent.
