curious if you were able to ride any of that gravel along the canal regional trails. Seems like a lot of it is closed unfortunately. The gravel segment of this was great but it ended up feeling like 25%gravel 75% road

Interesting loop. A small section is "closed to the public", but probably the prettiest segment. Given the heavy rains recently, much of the Black Diamond Mines Regional Park section was too heavily cow-tracked to be ridable on a gravel bike. Overall a really neat loop, though.
