Mostly loose dirt and gravel; ideally you'll have a mountain bike or a gravel bike with 40+ tires and low pressure. Had a tendency to be washed out in the spring, especially the sections east of Stamford.

As of early June, the trail is cut off due to flooding just South of Grand Gorge where the CST cuts across highway 30. Trail get progressively better from Stamford to Bloomville.
