Part of the trail heading North from Main St. in New Paltz has been paved. In the southern part, the jog from Denniston and Birch Rd. is a detour on pavement. South of that (Birch Rd. to Railroad Ave.) is quite rough and muddy, and then the final southern part heading into Walkill is paved. Otherwise, great rail trail. The Rail Trail Cafe and Rosendale Trestle are highlights.
