Had to do the route CCW as the security guard at the Cliffs gated community wouldn't let me ride through. Gravel was quite large and rough. I had 38mm tires so I would definitely recommend larger. Doing the route CCW, the climb to the Jocassee overlook is BRUTAL. Very steep pitches with loose gravel means I had to walk several times. Descent is also very loose and steep. Beautiful ride, just more epic than expected

I did this route clockwise as posted and parked at the Vineyards fire station to cut a few miles off the loop. This route for me was 18.7 miles with 2500 feet of climbing. If the guard gate at the Cliffs gives you trouble you could ride the loop counter clockwise so that you would be exiting out of the guard gate. If riding counter clockwise watch out for the gates that block the road on your decent back towards the Cliffs neighborhood.
