Gravel Segment
From Sand Creek Rd, Arbuckle, Colusa County to Rd 41, Rumsey, Yolo County, California
I recommend traveling from east to west on the road. It's good gravel to the top, then clay going down the back side. If wet the clay is very sticky and may plug up your wheels if you don't have good clearance. There is one gate on the west end that you can lift a bicycle over. No cars can get through so the traffic is very light.

Rode this today. Good thing I started from the East side, as just West of the summit the road is washed out and CLOSED with a high gate. DO NOT try riding this route to or from Rumsey. From the East, it's a nice ride along a dry (most of the year) creek bed with interesting geology, little shade, almost no traffic - a smooth gravel road that climbs gradually until the last mile switchbacks up to the ridge top.

Rode this yesterday as an out and back from the West side. The gravel part of the road from the summit to the east is great aside from the ~3 miles before the end of Sand Creek Rd where the asphalt is old and very rough. The western side on the clay road has seen a very hard winter with major bullying (~10ft in one section) and a lot of cattle potholes. Would not recommend it unless you have some suspension.
