I rode this counterclockwise on July 31, 2025. As recommended by Arthur, I picked a weekday (Thursday). As I cranked my expedition bike up the mountain, a pair of quads passed me about every 20-30 minutes, with occurrences reducing as I got closer to the top. There also about 6 vehicles (3 truck and 3 cars) that traveled up or down. On the way up, I was fully juiced up and enjoyed the slow pace up the 11+ mile climb. I managed to ride all the way up in gear 2 or 3 most of the time, with an occasional 4,5 or 6. It's summer so I started about 9 am. I should have started earlier. The temperature in the valley was predicted to be 92F. When I reached the top it was a little cooler. The downhill section was faster, but seemed more technical. There were rocks that resembled broken bowling balls shortly after the summit followed by grapefruit size rocks. I found these hard to get through even though my wheels for 29x2.4". I walked in one small, steep downhill section. with no easy path through the bowling balls. The last third of the trail (from the bottom back to my truck) was the worst in my experience. I energy stores were zero according to my fitness watch and it felt like it. Temperatures had reached the 90s and my heart rate was elevated just standing in the shade. The trail appeared relative flat on the map elevation chart, but in reality was a series of steep up and down hills with thick sand or gravel at the bottom of nearly every downhill. I think spring snow melt dumps gravel and sand during the spring thaw. Would I do it again? Yes, but I would start much earlier in the morning and maybe park my truck closer to the bottom of the downhill. I would also bring more high energy foods to keep my energy levels up.

This is doable on a gravel bike but more fun on a mountain bike. Especially descending.

I'd avoid this on the weekend. Got passed by dirt bikes, 4 wheelers, and trucks almost the entire day. Folks shooting guns at almost every switchback on the Bountiful side. Farmington Canyon descent was really nice!
