From Raven Rock Road (Route 491) to just past the reservoir this road is paved but then it turns to hard packed gravel with a few loose gravel patches. I did it on a road bike with 25 mm tires and it wasn't much of a problem. It is really a beautiful stretch of road and I highly recommend going off course to try this one out!
