This segment represents the abandoned "Mallard" railroad grade used in the logging days to connect the towns of Mallard and Alida. It is currently a minimum maintenance road with lots of deep water filled ruts (at times) and plenty of mosquitos and horse and deerflies. It's curvey, so that make it an interesting addition to gravel routes in Clearwater County
