R355 to CalviniaGravel route from R27 to R355, Breede River DC, Cape Winelands, Western Cape "Gravelmap × R355 to Calvinia ZS1RA Shaun Overmeyer 3 hours ago From R27, Calvinia, Namakwa, Northern Cape to R355, Breede River DC, Cape Winelands, Western Cape This is the longest uninterrupted gravel road in South Africa. It's a route that every gravel hunter should drive/ride at least once. Be prepared to have punctures, more than one. This road is notorious for destroying tyres. Spare tyres are highly recommended as well as the ability to repair a puncture by yourself. Be careful on the fast stretches, it's easy to be caught out, also slow down for oncoming traffic. A lesser known fact is that windscreens are often damaged on this road. Lastly you are likely to find pedestrians, cyclists and donkey drawn carts on the road. Please slow down and show respect for the locals by minimising the dust you create whilst enjoying the road in their backyard" |
